Sam Mendes signe officiellement pour BOND 24

Après des mois d’atermoiements, tout rentre dans l’ordre et Mendes revient pour donner suite à son SKYFALL. Sortie du prochain épisode en… 2015.

Il avait tout d’abord dit hésiter à revenir. Puis avait été dit en négo. Mais finalement, Sam Mendes avait décliné l’offre de EON Productions pour revenir à la barre de BOND 24, arguant vouloir s’occuper de ses projets scéniques (le musical « Charlie et la chocolaterie » et la pièce « Le Roi Lear »). Et même si Barbara Broccoli semblait vouloir s’accrocher à Mendes, une shortlist de cinéastes potentiels avait fuité sur le Net, sans que l’on sache si elle était tangible. Finalement, la rumeur courait que Sam Mendes pourrait revenir.

Aujourd’hui, c’est désormais officiel : le réalisateur de SKYFALL s’occupera bien de BOND 24. Pour le faire revenir, EON Productions et Sony ont dû mettre les bouchées double niveau cachet et pourcentage sur les recettes. Mais surtout, on constate que la production de BOND 24 a été repoussée. Originellement, le film était censé se tourner fin 2013 pour une sortie en 2014. Mais au final, le communiqué de presse nous apprend que BOND 24 arrivera dans les salles à l’automne 2015. De quoi laisser le temps à Mendes de s’occuper tranquillement du « Roi Lear » (dont les représentations doivent débuter en janvier 2014) puis de se lancer ensuite dans la préproduction et le tournage de BOND 24.

Mendes dit d’ailleurs dans le communiqué de presse : « Je suis très heureux qu’en me laissant le temps d’honorer mes engagements au théâtre, les producteurs ont rendu possible mon implication à la réalisation de BOND 24. J’ai très hâte de prendre de nouveau les rênes et de travailler une deuxième fois avec Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson et Barbara Broccoli. »

Director’s Follow-Up to SKYFALL™, the Highest-Grossing Film in the Longest Running Film Franchise, to Arrive in Theaters on October 23, 2015 in the UK and November 6, 2015 in the US

CULVER CITY, Calif., July 11, 2013 – Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions; Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc, and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that Daniel Craig will once again return as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan.  The film is set for release in UK theaters on October 23, 2015 and in US theaters on November 6, 2015.

SKYFALL™, the 23rd James Bond film, took in $1.1 billion worldwide and set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK; it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray and was the most critically acclaimed film in the history of the longest-running film franchise.

Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, “Following the extraordinary success of SKYFALL, we’re really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.”

“I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time,” said Mendes.
